　　A Hollywood producer(制片人) was determined to give his mother a birthday gift that would be better than any his brothers were giving her. He heard about an amazing bird, which could talk in twelve languages and sing ten famous operas(歌劇). He immediately bought the bird and sent it to his mother.It cost him$50，000.

　　一位好萊塢制片人決定送給他母親一份生日禮物，那將比他的兄弟們送的任何禮物都要好。他聽說有一只令人驚異的鳥能說十二種語(yǔ)言，能唱十種著名歌劇，便立即買下了這只鳥，寄給了他的母親。這花了他五萬(wàn)美元。

　　The day after her birthday，he phoned his mother.“What did you think of the bird， Mother?”He asked eagerly(熱切地).His mother replied(回答)，“Delicious!”

　　他母親生日的翌日，他打電話給她。“媽媽，您覺得那只鳥兒怎么樣?”他急切地問。他母親回答說：“味道好極了!”

　　「讀書筆記」

　　
1.Hear可以和許多介詞組成短語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞，這里為大家介紹兩個(gè)常用的。

　　(1)hear about聽說、得知，如：

　　I've just heard about his illness.

　　我剛聽說他生病的事。

　　(2)hear from收到……的信或電報(bào)，如：

　　I haven't heard from him since he telephoned.

　　自從那次他來電話后,我一直沒有收到他的來信。

　　短語(yǔ)hear of也有“聽說”的意思，那么和hear about的區(qū)別在哪里呢?請(qǐng)看下面兩個(gè)例子：

　　Have you heard about the accident?

　　你聽說那場(chǎng)事故了嗎?

　　I haven't heard of her for a long time.

　　我好久沒有她的消息了。

　　也就是說，hear about后常接事件之類的名詞，而hear of后則常接人或事物。

　
　2.Amazing

　　在西方人的口中，表示驚訝，經(jīng)常可以聽到amazing這個(gè)詞。如果有些事情發(fā)生得出乎意料，難以置信，就可以用amazing來形容。比如：

　　It was amazing that the boy was able to solve the problem so quickly.

　　那男孩能這樣快地解完這道題,真是令人驚奇。

　　有些漂亮或另類的東西，總能吸引許多眼球，就可以說是amazing things，如：

　　I am always looking for new and amazing items.

　　我總是在尋找讓我眼前一亮的新東西。

　　「句型留言板」

　　
sth. cost sb. …

　　某樣?xùn)|西花費(fèi)某人……(錢)

　　注意：在這個(gè)句型中，主語(yǔ)是“物”，賓語(yǔ)是“人”。

　　The car cost him around ten thousand US dollars.

　　這車花去他一萬(wàn)美元左右。

　　A new computer costs a lot of money, you know.

　　你知道， 買一臺(tái)新電腦要花一大筆錢。

　　如果是doing sth. cost sb. some time意思就是“做某事花費(fèi)某人……時(shí)間”。如：

　　Remembering these new words of this unit cost him plenty of time.

　　他花了大量時(shí)間才記住了這一單元的單詞。

　　
友情提示：cost的過去式及過去分詞都是cost,并且不能用于被動(dòng)句。
